Revenue Protection Inspector (RPIs) or Revenue Protection Officer (RPOs) (or even Revenue Control Inspector on London Transport) is the job title given to staff who patrol different forms of public transport issuing penalty fares to passengers who travel without a valid ticket. These titles are principally used in the United Kingdom. In the United States, the term fare inspector is often used to refer to persons who audit transit passengers for proper payment of fare; in addition, police officers are authorized to conduct fare inspections on some systems.

Famous quotes containing the words revenue, protection and/or inspector:
“Happy are those who find wisdom, and those who get understanding, for her income is better than silver, and her revenue better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called happy.”
—Bible: Hebrew, Proverbs 3:13-18.
“Innocence does not find near so much protection as guilt.”
—François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (16131680)
“Chief Inspector Dreyfus: What about the maid?
Inspector Clouseau: The maid?
Chief Inspector Dreyfus: Was he jealous of her, too? He strangled her.
Inspector Clouseau: Its possible that his intended victim was a man and he made a mistake.
Chief Inspector Dreyfus: A mistake? In a nudist camp?
Inspector Clouseau: Nobodys perfect.”
—Blake Edwards (b. 1922)
