Retamal de Llerena - History

History

For historical and military reasons, the population settled in the limits of Santiago and are therefore not included in the Priory Magacela and not attached to Castuera despite the proximity. From 1594 ' Retamal' Census population of the provinces and parties Crown of Castile in 16th century became part of the state Lion of the Order of Santiago, counting 173 neighbors belonging to commoners and the charge of Hornachos.

The fall of the Ancient Regime changed name of the town township, then known as 'Retamal', in the region of Extremadura. From 1834 Retamal became part of the judiciary party of Llerena. In the census of 1842, it counted 62 homes and 225 residents.
