Resource Consent - Definition and Nature

Definition and Nature

The term "resource consent" is defined as;

  • a permit to carry out an activity that would otherwise contravene a rule in a city or district plan.
  • a permission required for an activity that might affect the environment, and that isn't allowed 'as of right' in the district or regional plan.

A resource consent, once granted to an applicant, is neither real nor personal property. Therefore resource consents cannot be 'owned'; they are 'held' by 'consent holders'.

Famous quotes containing the words definition and/or nature:

    I’m beginning to think that the proper definition of “Man” is “an animal that writes letters.”
    Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832–1898)

    I don’t think I was constructed to be monogamous. I don’t think it’s the nature of any man to be monogamous.... Men are propelled by genetically ordained impulses over which they have no control to distribute their seed into as many females as possible.
    Marlon Brando (b. 1924)
