Famous quotes containing the word philosophy:

It was fit that I should live on rice, mainly, who loved so well the philosophy of India.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It is not easy to make our lives respectable by any course of activity. We must repeatedly withdraw into our shells of thought, like the tortoise, somewhat helplessly; yet there is more than philosophy in that.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

One of the main things that interfere with our joy is the belief that if we try hard enough, read the right books, follow the right advice, and buy the right things, we could be perfect parents. Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
