Rechargeable Energy Storage System

A rechargeable energy storage system or RESS is a system that stores energy for delivery of power and which is rechargeable.

Production storage systems use electric rechargeable traction batteries, electric double-layer capacitors or flywheel energy storage.

This term of art is used in US legislation related to hybrid vehicles (such as the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2003 and the Heavy Duty Hybrid Vehicle Research, Development, and Demonstration Act of 2009), and also in ISO international standards covering electric vehicles.

Famous quotes containing the words energy, storage and/or system:

A great number of the disappointments and mishaps of the troubled world are the direct result of literature and the allied arts. It is our belief that no human being who devotes his life and energy to the manufacture of fantasies can be anything but fundamentally inadequate
    Christopher Hampton (b. 1946)

Many of our houses, both public and private, with their almost innumerable apartments, their huge halls and their cellars for the storage of wines and other munitions of peace, appear to me extravagantly large for their inhabitants. They are so vast and magnificent that the latter seem to be only vermin which infest them.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Fear, coercion, punishment, are the masculine remedies for moral weakness, but statistics show their failure for centuries. Why not change the system and try the education of the moral and intellectual faculties, cheerful surroundings, inspiring influences? Everything in our present system tends to lower the physical vitality, the self-respect, the moral tone, and to harden instead of reforming the criminal.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)
