Resolving Controversy Surrounding Rana Asif Mehmood's Religion
The dangerous confusion surrounding the religious status of treasury member Rana Asif Mehmood in the Punjab Assembly was resolved on Friday after he vehemently stated he was a born Christian, requesting the opposition parties and the media not to indulge in the dangerous propaganda against him which might cost him his life, just like Salman Taseer and Shahbaz Bhatti. The PPP-led opposition parties which had been instrumental in making his religious status controversial over the last few days accepted his clarification but speaker Rana Iqbal Khan summoned the leader of the opposition Raja Riaz, law minister Rana Sanaullah, Rana Asif Mehmood, and the mover of the adjournment motion against him PML-Q’s Samina Khawar Hayat, in his chambers to decide the issue so that it might not come up on the floor of the House again.

Famous quotes containing the words resolving, controversy, surrounding and/or religion:
“I review novels to make money, because it is easier for a sluggard to write an article a fortnight than a book a year, because the writer is soothed by the opiate of action, the crank by posing as a good journalist, and having an airhole. I dislike it. I do it and I am always resolving to give it up.”
—Cyril Connolly (19031974)
“And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.”
—Thomas Hobbes (15791688)
“Formerly, when lying awake at midnight in those woods, I had listened to hear some words or syllables of their language, but it chanced that I listened in vain until I heard the cry of the loon. I have heard it occasionally on the ponds of my native town, but there its wildness is not enhanced by the surrounding scenery.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“We think of religion as the symbolic expression of our highest moral ideals; we think of magic as a crude aggregate of superstitions. Religious belief seems to become mere superstitious credulity if we admit any relationship with magic. On the other hand our anthropological and ethnographical material makes it extremely difficult to separate the two fields.”
—Ernst Cassirer (18741945)
