Ragnhild Lorentzen - Biography

Biography

In November 2003, aged 35, she married American Aaron Long. Due to the provisions of the Act of Settlement 1701, her marriage to a Roman Catholic removed her from the lines of succession to the British throne and the thrones of the other fifteen Commonwealth realms. She currently lives in the United States, where she works in the hospitality industry.

Aaron and Ranghild have two daughters:

  • Alexandra Lorentzen Long, born in Santa Barbara, California, on 14 December 2007.
  • Elizabeth Lorentzen Long, born in March 2011.

In 2002, the Guardian newspaper attempted to get an interview with Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee. After being declined, the paper then attempted to interview the closest person possible in the line of succession to the Queen. After being turned down by the entire British Royal Family, and their closest descendants, the paper finally managed to interview Ragnhild, at that time 66th in the line of succession.

Famous quotes containing the word biography:

A biography is like a handshake down the years, that can become an arm-wrestle.
    Richard Holmes (b. 1945)

Had Dr. Johnson written his own life, in conformity with the opinion which he has given, that every man’s life may be best written by himself; had he employed in the preservation of his own history, that clearness of narration and elegance of language in which he has embalmed so many eminent persons, the world would probably have had the most perfect example of biography that was ever exhibited.
    James Boswell (1740–95)

A great biography should, like the close of a great drama, leave behind it a feeling of serenity. We collect into a small bunch the flowers, the few flowers, which brought sweetness into a life, and present it as an offering to an accomplished destiny. It is the dying refrain of a completed song, the final verse of a finished poem.
    André Maurois (1885–1967)
