Life and Career
Born as Rachel Levin, she selected the name Rachel Chagall as there was already another Rachel Levin in the industry. She is perhaps best known for her role as the dimwitted sidekick, "Val", on the 1990s American television series The Nanny, alongside her longtime friend Fran Drescher. The last name Toriello she took on the show was the last name of one of Fran's cousins. She has twins, Jonah and Eve. Those names were used in The Nanny as Fran and Maxwell's children.
She made guest appearances on Just Shoot Me! and Strong Medicine. She also played a mysterious woman in the show What I Like About You. Under her birth name (Rachel Levin), Chagall appeared in Gaby: A True Story (1987) in the title role as Gabriela Brimmer (for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe - Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama) and White Palace (1990) in the role of Rachel. She also appeared in The Last Supper (1995).
On December 6, 2004, Chagall appeared at the cast reunion for The Nanny, called The Nanny Reunion: A Nosh to Remember. Since 2006 she has not done television roles.

Famous quotes containing the words life and/or career:
“I found my brothers body at the bottom there, where they had thrown it away on the rocks, by the river. Like an old, dirty rag nobody wants. He was dead. And I felt I had killed him. I turned back to give myself up.... Because if a mans life can be lived so long and come out this way, like rubbish, then something was horrible, and had to be ended one way or another. And I decided to help.”
—Abraham Polonsky (b. 1910)
“The problem, thus, is not whether or not women are to combine marriage and motherhood with work or career but how they are to do soconcomitantly in a two-role continuous pattern or sequentially in a pattern involving job or career discontinuities.”
—Jessie Bernard (20th century)
