Archive Scanning Partnership With Google News
In 2008 the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph joined the Google News microfilm scanning project to make its newspaper archives more accessible via Google's free news archive search service.
Publisher Pierre Little stated that:
This effort will open up a new world of possibilities for today's Internet users. You can search for everything from news of loved ones of past generations to news of major historical eventsand that:
... many readers visit the newspaper’s Web site to look for obituaries and conduct research on their ancestors. We could envision that thousands of families would be attracted to our archives to search for people who came over to the New World. ... We hope that will be a financial windfall for us.Read more about this topic: Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph
Famous quotes containing the words archive, partnership and/or news:
“To a historian libraries are food, shelter, and even muse. They are of two kinds: the library of published material, books, pamphlets, periodicals, and the archive of unpublished papers and documents.”
—Barbara Tuchman (19121989)
“Society is indeed a contract.... It is a partnership in all science; a partnership in all art; a partnership in every virtue, and in all perfection. As the ends of such a partnership cannot be obtained in many generations, it becomes a partnership not only between those who are living, but between those who are living, those who are dead, and those who are to be born.”
—Edmund Burke (17291797)
“Charles Foster Kane: Look, Mr. Carter. Here is a three-column headline in the Chronicle. Why hasnt the Inquirer a three-column headline?
Carter: News wasnt big enough.
Charles Foster Kane: Mr. Carter, if the headline is big enough, it makes the news big enough.”
—Orson Welles (19151985)
