Famous quotes containing the word development:

Somehow we have been taught to believe that the experiences of girls and women are not important in the study and understanding of human behavior. If we know men, then we know all of humankind. These prevalent cultural attitudes totally deny the uniqueness of the female experience, limiting the development of girls and women and depriving a needy world of the gifts, talents, and resources our daughters have to offer.
    Jeanne Elium (20th century)

And then ... he flung open the door of my compartment, and ushered in “Ma young and lovely lady!” I muttered to myself with some bitterness. “And this is, of course, the opening scene of Vol. I. Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832–1898)

The American has dwindled into an Odd Fellow—one who may be known by the development of his organ of gregariousness.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
