Famous quotes containing the word clerk:
“Your faith an trouth yese never get
Nor our trew Love shall never twain
Till ye come within my bower
And kiss me both cheek and chin.
My mouth it is full cold, Margret,
It has the smell now of the ground;
An if I kiss thy comly mouth
Thy life days will not be long.”
—Unknown. Clerk Saunders (l. 109116)
“Then louder cryd the Clerk Colvill,
O sairer, sairer akes my head;
And sairer, sairer ever will,
The maiden crys, till you be dead.”
—Unknown. Clerk Colvill (l. 3336)
“In the cold morning the rested street stands up
To greet the clerk who saunters down the world.”
—Allen Tate (18991979)
