Method
Consider the second-order linear differential equation
Suppose a2 is nonzero for all z. Then we can divide throughout to obtain
Suppose further that a1/a2 and a0/a2 are analytic functions.
The power series method calls for the construction of a power series solution
If a2 is zero for some z, then the Frobenius method, a variation on this method, is suited to deal with so called singular points. The method works analogously for higher order equations as well as for systems.

Famous quotes containing the word method:
“Women are denied masturbation even more severely than men and thats another method of controltheyre not taught to please themselves.... Most womenit takes them a while to warm up to the situation but once they get into it, Im sure theyre going to get just as hooked aswell, everyone I know is!”
—Lydia Lunch (b. 1959)
“The most passionate, consistent, extreme and implacable enemy of the Enlightenment and ... all forms of rationalism ... was Johann Georg Hamann. His influence, direct and indirect, upon the romantic revolt against universalism and scientific method ... was considerable and perhaps crucial.”
—Isaiah Berlin (b. 1909)
“The good husband finds method as efficient in the packing of fire-wood in a shed, or in the harvesting of fruits in the cellar, as in Peninsular campaigns or the files of the Department of State.”
