Dennis John Kucinich (born October 8, 1946) is an American politician, a former representative of Ohio's 10th congressional district (since 1997), a former Mayor of Cleveland (1978–1979), and twice a candidate for President of the United States.

Kucinich is often regarded as one of the most liberal members of the United States House of Representatives. Wade-litmus-test wing of the Democratic Party. I'm from the abolish-the-death-penalty wing of the Democratic Party." Dennis Kucinich has been likened to social democrats in Europe.

Dennis Kucinich has also gained reputation as a pacifist. On The Daily Show with Jon Stewart he said as he ran for president in 2004 he wanted to end the idea that war is inevitable. He has authored a bill to create a Department of Peace.

Famous quotes containing the words political and/or positions:

Generally speaking, the political news, whether domestic or foreign, might be written today for the next ten years with sufficient accuracy. Most revolutions in society have not power to interest, still less alarm us; but tell me that our rivers are drying up, or the genus pine dying out in the country, and I might attend.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

What arouses the indignation of the honest satirist is not, unless the man is a prig, the fact that people in positions of power or influence behave idiotically, or even that they behave wickedly. It is that they conspire successfully to impose upon the public a picture of themselves as so very sagacious, honest and well-intentioned.
    Claud Cockburn (1904–1981)
