Modern Attitudes
The example of modern attitudes towards issue of tribal history on area of modern Poland could be Przemyslaw Urbanczyk. He remarks that there are absolutely no indications that there were stable tribe structures. Existing sources mention some names of tribes that never repeats in the next source and cannot be associated with any archaeological findings. With notable exception of Pomeranians, no province of Poland identified itself with separate tribe. This was due to the fact that any structure on area of Poland must have been very dynamic and based on chieftain model. Once chieftain family of Piast established itself well, it formed Christian state with hereditary monarchy. Piast family never based on particular tribe and sources only mention Slavic people as description of local people prior to their ascent to power.

Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or attitudes:
“A more problematic example is the parallel between the increasingly abstract and insubstantial picture of the physical universe which modern physics has given us and the popularity of abstract and non-representational forms of art and poetry. In each case the representation of reality is increasingly removed from the picture which is immediately presented to us by our senses.”
—Harvey Brooks (b. 1915)
“Success and failure in our own national economy will hang upon the degree to which we are able to work with races and nations whose social order and whose behavior and attitudes are strange to us.”
—Ruth Benedict (18871948)
