Notable Alumni

Today, Pi Alpha Phi's Alumni Association consists of one of the largest networks of alumni spanning back from the mid-1920s. For over eighty years, Pi Alpha Phi alumni have pursued and established successful careers, becoming pioneers in business, law, medicine, politics, higher education, science, entertainment, and nearly every other field imaginable.

The following esteemed alumni represent only a small sample of the many successful members of the Fraternity:

  • Hon. Delbert E. Wong — retired Superior Court Judge, World War II veteran. First person of Chinese descent to be appointed to the judiciary in the continental United States. Appointed as the Special Master in the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
  • Thomas Chinn — former Sacramento City Councilman 1983 - 1992
  • Gilbert Choy — leading China economist and a Senior Advisor to Beijing Government. Currently Chairman at Edgora, Inc. and Director at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson
  • Steven J. Dodson — C.E.O and Investment Banker. UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business alumni.
  • Edwin M. Epstein — Professor Emeritus at UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business
  • Ralph Fong Sr. — first Chinese-American hired by Aramco (now Chevron). Project Manager to build an oil/gas facility in Saudi Arabia valued at over $1 billion. Former President of the CAL Alumni Association
  • Edward Gee — first licensed Chinese-American real estate agent in San Francisco, CA
  • Dr. Timothy S. Gee — One of the country’s leaders in the field of cancer research

  • George Kan — Vice President of Hewlett-Packard in the first ten years
  • Dr. Frank Y. Lee — served on the 1984 U.S. Olympic Committee, Los Angeles, CA. In recognition for his outstanding humanitarian service, he was knighted by Pope John Paul VI
