Phytophthora Capsici - Importance

Importance

Phytophthora capsici was first described by Leon H. Leonian at the New Mexico Agricultural Research Station in Las Crucesin in 1922. After this, issues were documented in the Arkansas River Valley of Colorado in the 1930s and 40's. Major research was initiated by M.K. Hausbeck and K.H. Lamour when crop losses due to P. capsici threatened to bankrupt numerous vegetable producers in Michigan (which could potentially threaten 134 million dollars worth of vegetable crops). P. capsici is also important on a global scale. It is potentially the most destructive disease of peppers in Spain.

Famous quotes containing the word importance:

In the United States all business not transacted over the telephone is accomplished in conjunction with alcohol or food, often under conditions of advanced intoxication. This is a fact of the utmost importance for the visitor of limited funds ... for it means that the most expensive restaurants are, with rare exceptions, the worst.
    John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)

Society is the stage on which manners are shown; novels are the literature. Novels are the journal or record of manners; and the new importance of these books derives from the fact, that the novelist begins to penetrate the surface, and treat this part of life more worthily.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Any novel of importance has a purpose. If only the “purpose” be large enough, and not at outs with the passional inspiration.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)
