Peter Matera - Finest Hour

Finest Hour

Peter Matera permanently etched his name into footy folklore with his outstanding performance in the 1992 Grand Final. The West Coast Eagles captured their first premiership on the back of Matera's excellent 5 goal effort from the Wing. The image of Matera 'setting sail for home' is considered by many to be the definitive moment in West Coast history. Matera collected the Norm Smith Medal for his best on ground performance.

Famous quotes containing the words finest and/or hour:

The finest eloquence is that which gets things done; the worst is that which delays them.
    David Lloyd George (1863–1945)

If the Americans, in addition to the eagle and the Stars and Stripes and the more unofficial symbols of bison, moose and Indian, should ever need another emblem, one which is friendly and pleasant, then I think they should choose the grapefruit. Or rather the half grapefruit, for this fruit only comes in halves, I believe. Practically speaking, it is always yellow, always just as fresh and well served. And it always comes at the same, still hopeful hour of the morning.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)
