Peel Thunder Football Club - History

History

Peel Thunder was formed in 1996 after the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) granted a ninth licence in the WAFL to the Mandurah-Peel region. The licence was issued on the condition that the club be ready to compete in the 1997 Westar Rules competition. Geoff Miles was appointed as the team's inaugural coach and Phil Gilbert was named captain. The team finished last, with Scott Simister winning the inaugural best and fairest.

In 2011, the club was fined A$10,000 for breaching the league's salary cap rules.

The club are statistically the worst club ever to compete in the WAFL, having won only 71 out of 316 matches played, or a 22.47% winning percentage. The club have never made the finals, with 6th place their best finish, in 2002 and 2008.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism.... Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

To history therefore I must refer for answer, in which it would be an unhappy passage indeed, which should shew by what fatal indulgence of subordinate views and passions, a contest for an atom had defeated well founded prospects of giving liberty to half the globe.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
