Patti LaBelle - Influence

Influence

As lead singer of the idiosyncratic group La belle, Patti Labelle has been called one of the pioneers of the disco movement due to singles such as "Lady Marmalade" and "Messin' With My Mind". In turn, "Lady Marmalade" has been also called one of the first mainstream disco hits (Jones and Kantonen, 1999). Rolling Stones Magazine includes Labelle in its 100 Greatest Singers List citing her as an influencing factor to 'generations of soul singers' including Luther Vandross, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Christina Aguilera . Other singers who have been inspired by Patti Labelle include Ashford & Simpson, Celine Dion, Donna Summer, Jennifer Hudson, Jody Watley, Macy Gray, Mariah Carey, Martha Wash, Paula Abdul and Whitney Houston as well as Oleta Adams, and Regina Belle .

Famous quotes containing the word influence:

A bestial and violent man will go so far as to kill because he is under the influence of drink, exasperated, or driven by rage and alcohol. He is paltry. He does not know the pleasure of killing, the charity of bestowing death like a caress, of linking it with the play of the noble wild beasts: every cat, every tiger, embraces its prey and licks it even while it destroys it.
    Colette [Sidonie Gabrielle Colette] (1873–1954)

This declared indifference, but as I must think, covert real zeal for the spread of slavery, I can not but hate. I hate it because of the monstrous injustice of slavery itself. I hate it because it deprives our republican example of its just influence in the world ... and especially because it forces so many really good men amongst ourselves into an open war with the very fundamental principles of civil liberty.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

Mothers have as powerful an influence over the welfare of future generations, as all other causes combined.
—John Abbott. The Mother at Home; or the Principles of Maternal Duty, John Abbott, Crocker and Brewster (1833)
