McGoohan died on January 13, 2009 at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, following a brief illness. His remains were cremated.

A biography of the actor was first published in 2007 by Tomahawk Press, with a further biography which included input from those close to the man published in 2011 by Supernova Books.
