The Crown
The British monarch was originally to have been represented in both Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland by the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Instead, a new office - Governor of Northern Ireland - was created on 12 December 1922.

Famous quotes containing the word crown:
“Tis not the balm, the sceptre, and the ball,
The sword, the mace, the crown imperial,
The intertissued robe of gold and pearl,
...
Not all these, laid in bed majestical,
Can sleep so soundly as the wretched slave
Who with a body filled and vacant mind
Gets him to rest, crammed with distressful bread.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.”
—Bible: Hebrew, Proverbs 16:31.
