Pambazuka News - Newspaper

Newspaper

Fahamu’s flagship publication is Pambazuka News, an open-access, pan-African e-mail and online newsletter. As of 2012, editions have been published in English, French, and Portuguese. It has approximately 15,000 subscribers and an estimated weekly readership of at least 500,000 people. Pambazuka News has been generated predominantly in Africa since the year 2000. Its 400th issue was published in 2008. It is produced by a pan-African community of over 1,200 citizens - academics, social activists, women's organisations, writers, artists, poets, bloggers, and commentators - who together produce analyses that make it an innovative and influential site for social justice in Africa. Pambazuka publishes broadcasts, special reports and has triggered the development of book publications since its founding as a newspaper. Future developments for this entity may include a non-profit sector, aimed at helping them fund what is actually happening in Africa, to help bring more information to the world.

Famous quotes containing the word newspaper:

A strange age of the world this, when empires, kingdoms, and republics come a-begging to a private man’s door, and utter their complaints at his elbow! I cannot take up a newspaper but I find that some wretched government or other, hard pushed and on its last legs, is interceding with me, the reader, to vote for it.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Reading someone else’s newspaper is like sleeping with someone else’s wife. Nothing seems to be precisely in the right place, and when you find what you are looking for, it is not clear then how to respond to it.
    Malcolm Bradbury (b. 1932)

The newspaper has debauched the American until he is a slavish, simpering, and angerless citizen; it has taught him to be a lump mass-man toward fraud, simony, murder, and lunacies more vile than those of Commodus or Caracalla.
    Edward Dahlberg (1900–1977)
