Heat guns are an alternative to chemical paint strippers. High heat guns at 1000F. create toxic lead fumes in pre-1978 paint. They are now prohibited by EPA for contractors to use in these situations. Low heat 400F infrared paint remover does not create lead fumes and is compliant with the EPA lead laws . Chemicals create messy paint waste hard to contain and dispose of safely.
