The following outline is provided as an overview of and topical guide to the Netherlands:

The Netherlands (i/ˈnɛðərləndz/; Dutch: Nederland, ) is a sovereign country comprising the mainland located in Northwest Europe and several islands located in the Caribbean that, together with Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten in the Caribbean Sea, constitute the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Netherlands is a parliamentary democratic constitutional monarchy. Its European mainland is bordered by the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east.

The European Netherlands constitutes the vast majority (by land area and population) of both the country and Kingdom of the Netherlands, and as such 'The Netherlands' in common parlence often implicitly refers to this entity. Famous quotes containing the words outline of the, outline of, outline and/or netherlands:

The outline of the city became frantic in its effort to explain something that defied meaning. Power seemed to have outgrown its servitude and to have asserted its freedom. The cylinder had exploded, and thrown great masses of stone and steam against the sky.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

One by one objects are defined—
It quickens: clarity, outline of leaf

But now the stark dignity of
    entrance—Still, the profound change
has come upon them: rooted, they
grip down and begin to awaken
    William Carlos Williams (1883–1963)

It is the business of thought to define things, to find the boundaries; thought, indeed, is a ceaseless process of definition. It is the business of Art to give things shape. Anyone who takes no delight in the firm outline of an object, or in its essential character, has no artistic sense.... He cannot even be nourished by Art. Like Ephraim, he feeds upon the East wind, which has no boundaries.
    Vance Palmer (1885–1959)

Greece is a sort of American vassal; the Netherlands is the country of American bases that grow like tulip bulbs; Cuba is the main sugar plantation of the American monopolies; Turkey is prepared to kow-tow before any United States pro-consul and Canada is the boring second fiddle in the American symphony.
    Andrei Andreyevich Gromyko (1909–1989)
