The airport covers an area of 13 square kilometres (5.0 sq mi) and is based on the Atlanta model, with two parallel runways and a single terminal with two piers on a single line. Non-commercial and practice general aviation is not operated at Gardermoen, and is mainly done from Kjeller Airport, Rakkestad Airport and Tønsberg Airport, Jarlsberg. Gardermoen is located 19 nautical miles (35 km; 22 mi) north-northeast of Oslo city center.
