Orton Ceramic Foundation

The roots of the Orton Ceramic Foundation date back to the establishment of the "Standard Pyrometric Cone Company" in 1896 by Dr. Edward J. Orton, Jr.. In 1894, he was appointed the first Chairman of the Ceramic Engineering Department at The Ohio State University, the first ceramic engineering school in the United States.

Dr. Orton did in 1932. In accordeance to his will a charitable trust was created to continue the "Standard Pyrometric Cone Company". Based in Westerville, Ohio, USA, it has three areas of products and services:

  • Produce pyrometric devices for monitoring thermal processing.
  • Design and build analytical instruments for measuring thermal properties.
  • Provide material testing services to measure thermal properties.

Famous quotes containing the words orton, ceramic and/or foundation:

Every luxury was lavished on you—atheism, breast-feeding, circumcision.
    —Joe Orton (1933–1967)

He had first discovered a propensity for savagery in the acrid lavatories of a minor English public school where he used to press the heads of the new boys into the ceramic bowl and pull the flush upon them to drown their gurgling protests.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

Simplicity of life, even the barest, is not a misery, but the very foundation of refinement; a sanded floor and whitewashed walls and the green trees, and flowery meads, and living waters outside; or a grimy palace amid the same with a regiment of housemaids always working to smear the dirt together so that it may be unnoticed; which, think you, is the most refined, the most fit for a gentleman of those two dwellings?
    William Morris (1834–1896)
