Optical Path Length - Mathematical Derivation

Mathematical Derivation

n=c/v=γ/γ° where c-speed of light in vacuum, v -speed of light in medium,γ-wavelength in vacuum,γ°-wavelength in medium similarly n=d/d° d-distance traveled by light in vacuum in time t,d°-distance traveled by light in medium in time t

multiply both side by d° hence d=n*d° is the optical path

Famous quotes containing the word mathematical:

It is by a mathematical point only that we are wise, as the sailor or the fugitive slave keeps the polestar in his eye; but that is sufficient guidance for all our life. We may not arrive at our port within a calculable period, but we would preserve the true course.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
