Operation Karbala-6 - Prelude

Prelude

As Operation Karbala-5 was launched to capture the city of al-Basra the Operations Karbala-6 at Qasr Shirin and Karbala-7 in Iraqi Kurdistan were launched to stop the Iraqis from transferring units to their defense lines in Basra. It was meant to divert Iraqi armor away from the city during the Karbala-5 attack. For the Operation around 10,000 Basij Militants, 1 regular army division and 1 Pasdaran division were used for this offensive. The Basijis were lined up early in the morning and sent on offence earlier than was planned because the enemy was expecting something.

Famous quotes containing the word prelude:

The less sophisticated of my forbears avoided foreigners at all costs, for the very good reason that, in their circles, speaking in tongues was commonly a prelude to snake handling. The more tolerant among us regarded foreign languages as a kind of speech impediment that could be overcome by willpower.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)

I am a prelude to better players, O my brothers! An example! Follow my example!
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

“We’re all friends here” is a prelude to fraud. “I am sincere” is a prelude to lying.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
