Accuracy and Detail of Green
Despite the fact that Abwehr intelligence gathering in Ireland had not begun until mid 1939, Green was thorough in detail. This can probably be attributed to the intelligence gathering of German civilians based in Ireland during the 1930s. That the plan for Green was completed days after being ordered is a testament to the planning staff in collating the data. Hitler's hope of a détente or non-aggression pact of some kind with the British, whom he considered the "natural allies" of Nazi Germany, led to him disallowing Abwehr intelligence gathering in Britain during the run up to the war in 1936–1938. Even when intelligence gathering was attempted following the capitulation of France it was mostly disastrous—see Operation Lobster I and Operation Seagull (Ireland) series. As Sea Lion was postponed and eventually shelved following the launching of Operation Barbarossa, the planning staff working on it issued two reprints adding detail as they went.

Famous quotes containing the words accuracy, detail and/or green:
“U.S. international and security policy ... has as its primary goal the preservation of what we might call the Fifth Freedom, understood crudely but with a fair degree of accuracy as the freedom to rob, to exploit and to dominate, to undertake any course of action to ensure that existing privilege is protected and advanced.”
—Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)
“Realism: the wealth of detail guarantees the truth of the tale.”
—Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
“Now the bright morning star, days harbinger,
Comes dancing from the east, and leads with her
The flowry May, who from her green lap throws
The yellow cowslip and the pale primrose.
Hail, bounteous May, that dost inspire
Mirth and youth and warm desire!
Woods and groves are of thy dressing,
Hill and dale doth boast thy blessing.”
—John Milton (16081674)
