Observations
The ORT has produced results on radio galaxies, quasars, supernovae and pulsars, One long-term program determined the angular structure of several hundred distant radio galaxies and quasars using the lunar occultation method.
The application of this database to observational cosmology provided independent evidence against the Steady State theory and supported the Big Bang model of the universe.
The telescope is currently being used mainly to observee interplanetary scintillation, which may provide valuable information about the solar wind and magnetic storms that affect the near - earth environment. Interplanetary scintillation observations provide a database to understand space weather changes and their predictability.

Famous quotes containing the word observations:
“The truth is, the Science of Nature has been already too long made only a work of the brain and the fancy: It is now high time that it should return to the plainness and soundness of observations on material and obvious things.”
—Robert Hooke (16351703)
“Jerry: Shes one of those third-year girls that gripe my liver.
Milo: Third-year girls?
Jerry: Yeah, you know, American college kids. They come over here to take their third year and lap up a little culture. They give me a swift pain.
Milo: Why?
Jerry: Theyre officious and dull. Theyre always making profound observations theyve overheard.”
—Alan Jay Lerner (19181986)
“The natural historian is not a fisherman who prays for cloudy days and good luck merely; but as fishing has been styled a contemplative mans recreation, introducing him profitably to woods and water, so the fruit of the naturalists observations is not in new genera or species, but in new contemplations still, and science is only a more contemplative mans recreation.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
