Ontonagon Boulder - Today

Today

As of 2011, the Ontonagon boulder is located in the National Museum of Natural History, but it is currently behind the scenes. It was to be installed in the Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals when they opened, but at the last minute, engineering concerns led to a veto. A new exhibition of the Boulder is being planned.

A replica of the Ontonagon boulder can be found at the Ontonagon Historical Museum. While various numbers are given for the boulder's weight, the most commonly accepted figure is 3,708 pounds.

Famous quotes containing the word today:

The late PrĂ©sident de Montesquieu told me that he knew how to be blind—he had been so for such a long time—but I swear that I do not know how to be deaf: I cannot get used to it, and I am as humiliated and distressed by it today as I was during the first week. No philosophy in the world can palliate deafness.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

Why does almost everything seem to me like its own parody? Why must I think that almost all, no, all the methods and conventions of art today are good for parody only?
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)

Working women today are trying to achieve in the work world what men have achieved all along—but men have always had the help of a woman at home who took care of all the other details of living! Today the working woman is also that woman at home, and without support services in the workplace and a respect for the work women do within and outside the home, the attempt to do both is taking its toll—on women, on men, and on our children.
    Jeanne Elium (20th century)
