Since 2001, Laura McLeod of SWAPO has been the governor of Omaheke Region. The region comprises seven constituencies: Aminuis, Epukiro, Kalahari, Gobabis, Otjinene, Otjombinde and Steinhausen. Upon independence of Namibia, Hereroland East was absorbed into the region.
