Old Point Loma Lighthouse

Old Point Loma Lighthouse

The original Point Loma Lighthouse was built on top of Point Loma at the mouth of San Diego Bay in San Diego, California. It is situated in the Cabrillo National Monument. It is sometimes erroneously called the "Old Spanish Lighthouse," but in fact it was not built during San Diego's Spanish or Mexican eras; it was built in 1855 by the United States government after California's admission as a state.

Famous quotes containing the words point and/or lighthouse:

    When raging love with extreme pain
    Most cruelly distrains my heart,
    When that my tears, as floods of rain,
    Bear witness of my woeful smart;
    When sighs have wasted so my breath
    That I lie at the point of death,
    Henry Howard, Earl Of Surrey (1517?–1547)

    It is the cry of a thousand sentinels, the echo from a thousand labyrinths; it is the lighthouse which cannot be hidden.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)
