Neighborhood Displacement
Under the original Environmental Impact Statement, residents of two neighborhoods were to be displaced by construction of the new Crosstown Expressway. Construction resulted in the demolition of 165 properties in the Walnut Grove and Riverside neighborhoods. The realignment will now directly result in reconstruction of 590 acres (2.4 km2) in Phase I and an additional 785 acres (3.18 km2) in Phase II, for a total of 1,375 acres (5.56 km2) in the core of Oklahoma City.

Famous quotes containing the word neighborhood:
“[The] elderly and timid single gentleman in Paris ... never drove down the Champs Elysees without expecting an accident, and commonly witnessing one; or found himself in the neighborhood of an official without calculating the chances of a bomb. So long as the rates of progress held good, these bombs would double in force and number every ten years.”
—Henry Brooks Adams (18381918)
