History
The building that currently houses OMS was built in 1916 as Bradley Central High School (BCHS). It was formed when Bradley County High School of Charleston, TN and Central High School of Cleveland, TN merged. Quintin Miller Smith was its first principal. For over fifty years it was one of the largest high schools in Tennessee, but in 1972, due to the school's condition, BCHS moved to another location in Cleveland where it remains today. The building then changed into Bradley Jr. High School (BJHS) and remained this way up until 2001, when BJHS was renamed Ocoee Middle School to reflect the transition from a junior high school to a middle school. Bill Winters was the schools first principal. In mid-2004, Ron Spangler replaced Bill Winters as the new OMS principal.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
“To summarize the contentions of this paper then. Firstly, the phrase the meaning of a word is a spurious phrase. Secondly and consequently, a re-examination is needed of phrases like the two which I discuss, being a part of the meaning of and having the same meaning. On these matters, dogmatists require prodding: although history indeed suggests that it may sometimes be better to let sleeping dogmatists lie.”
—J.L. (John Langshaw)
“In the history of the human mind, these glowing and ruddy fables precede the noonday thoughts of men, as Aurora the suns rays. The matutine intellect of the poet, keeping in advance of the glare of philosophy, always dwells in this auroral atmosphere.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
