NUTS 3 Statistical Regions Of The Republic Of Ireland
There are eight regions at NUTS III level in Ireland which came into existence in 1994, under the terms of the Local Government Act 1991. The geographical remit of each region is currently defined by combining the areas under the jurisdiction of three or more LAU-1 units of local government - the county and city councils. Each Region is governed by an associated Regional Authority. The role of the authorities is to monitor and regulate the delivery of the EU Structural Fund and to promote the co-ordination of the provision of public services.

“The morns are meeker than they were,
The nuts are getting brown;
The berrys cheek is plumper,
The rose is out of town.”
—Emily Dickinson (18301886)
“What is a television apparatus to man, who has only to shut his eyes to see the most inaccessible regions of the seen and the never seen, who has only to imagine in order to pierce through walls and cause all the planetary Baghdads of his dreams to rise from the dust.”
—Salvador Dali (19041989)
“Paper is cheap, and authors need not now erase one book before they write another. Instead of cultivating the earth for wheat and potatoes, they cultivate literature, and fill a place in the Republic of Letters. Or they would fain write for fame merely, as others actually raise crops of grain to be distilled into brandy.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The tragedy of Northern Ireland is that it is now a society in which the dead console the living.”
—Jack Holland (b. 1947)
