The Northern Pacific Railway Museum is a railroad museum in Toppenish, Washington.
In 1990 the ex-Northern Pacific Railway depot in Toppenish, WA, was leased and subsequently purchased from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1993 for the museum.
In 1993 the 1902 Northern Pacific steam locomotive #1364 was leased, and restoration began.
The museum currently houses a large collection of Northern Pacific Railway memorabilia as well as a full scale 1930 vintage Northern Pacific freight train.
Special events take place throughout the year and allow short train rides in a restored caboose.
Famous quotes containing the words northern, pacific, railway and/or museum:
“[During the Renaissance] the Italians said, We are one in the Father: we will go back. The Northern races said, We are one in Christ, we will go on.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
“The principle of majority rule is the mildest form in which the force of numbers can be exercised. It is a pacific substitute for civil war in which the opposing armies are counted and the victory is awarded to the larger before any blood is shed. Except in the sacred tests of democracy and in the incantations of the orators, we hardly take the trouble to pretend that the rule of the majority is not at bottom a rule of force.”
—Walter Lippmann (18891974)
“Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understandmy mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arms length.”
—Angela Carter (19401992)
“A fallen tree does not rise again.”
—Hawaiian saying no. 2412, lelo NoEau, collected, translated, and annotated by Mary Kawena Pukui, Bishop Museum Press, Hawaii (1983)
