North Witham - Community

Community

In the past the parish contained two public houses, the Plough Inn and the Black Bull, however both were closed in the 20th century. A village shop was opened in the village hall during the 1980s, but closed after two years. A previous telephone box was removed by British Telecom in 2007 after it was vandalised; a post box from the reign of King George VI is still in place. The village hall is in disrepair as have been the church's bells; one of the three bells was repaired in 2010.

A Camping and Caravanning Club certified campsite is used by caravanners as a stopping-off point when using the nearby A1 road.

Famous quotes containing the word community:

It never was in the power of any man or any community to call the arts into being. They come to serve his actual wants, never to please his fancy.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

When a language creates—as it does—a community within the present, it does so only by courtesy of a community between the present and the past.
    Christopher Ricks (b. 1933)
