Nonribosomal Peptide - Mixed With Polyketides

Mixed With Polyketides

Due to the similarity with polyketide synthetases (PKS), many secondary metabolites are, in fact, fusions of NRPs and polyketides. In essence, this occurs when PK modules follow NRP modules, and vice versa. Although there is high degree of similarity between the PCP domains of both types of sythetases, the mechanism of condensation is different from a chemical standpoint (claisen vs. transamidation).

Famous quotes containing the words mixed with and/or mixed:

Where might is mixed with wit, there is too good an accord in a government.
    Elizabeth I (1533–1603)

The middlebrow is the man, or woman, of middlebred intelligence who ambles and saunters now on this side of the hedge, now on that, in pursuit of no single object, neither art itself nor life itself, but both mixed indistinguishably, and rather nastily, with money, fame, power, or prestige.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
