Founding Year Controversy
It is interesting that various former logos of NK Železničar Ljubljana indicate four different founding years according to different historical sources. The Football Association of Ljubljana was founded in 1920 and there are no official sources about exact club establishments prior to that. The most common and also officially recognized variant is 1918, which was used by NZS and PrvaLiga. It is based on club monography 35 years of Železničar Ljubljana published in 1953, while there was also an anniversary celebration in 1958. The year 1918 was used also on club's last official logo untill 2005. Considering situation after the war some sources claim that it was unpossible to form any type of sport society prior to 1919. This year is used in club's first monography 25 years of ŽŠK Hermes 1919-1944 and was present on the alternate Viator&Vektor dragon logo. In the time of Slovenia indepependence process clubs started searching roots further back and club officialls of NK Ljubljana claimed lineage to old SK Hermes, so 1910 appeared on some logos from early nineties onwards. It was later revealed by the NZS that Hermes was founded at least in 1909 and that was the year that was unofficially used by the club until its dissolution in 2005. It was present on the logo of club's youth selections as well as in PrvaLiga magazines from that time. According to the last two variants Ljubljana was often referred to as the oldest Slovenian football club.
