Nikos Beloyannis - Writings

Writings

In his last letter, written from death-row, Belogiannis first mentions two books that he appears to have written about the economic development of Greece and the countries history of literature. The manuscripts of the former where finally recovered in 1998 and published under the title "Foreign Capital in Greece" (Το Ξένο Κεφάλαιο στην Ελλάδα). Through the detailed analysis of Greece's external borrowing, its history is presented as one of subjection to foreign powers and financial institutions who ended up controlling most of its economy and resources to the dismay of the working class.

Famous quotes containing the word writings:

For character, to prepare for the inevitable I recommend selections from [Ralph Waldo] Emerson. His writings have done for me far more than all other reading.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Accursed who brings to light of day
The writings I have cast away.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

Even in my own writings I cannot always recover the meaning of my former ideas; I know not what I meant to say, and often get into a regular heat, correcting and putting a new sense into it, having lost the first and better one. I do nothing but come and go. My judgement does not always forge straight ahead; it strays and wanders.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)
