Nikephoros I Komnenos Doukas - Family

Family

By his first wife Maria, the daughter of Emperor Theodore II Doukas Laskaris, Nikephoros I had one daughter:

  • Catherine, who married Infante Frederick of Castile

By his second wife Anna, the niece of Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos, Nikephoros I had four children:

  • Thamar, who married Philip I of Taranto, a son of King Charles II of Naples.
  • Michael, he was a hostage at Naples in 1291. He presumably died before his father.
  • Thomas, who succeeded as ruler of Epirus.
  • Maria, who married Count John I Orsini of Cephalonia (1304–1317); their sons Nicholas Orsini and John II Orsini became despots in Epirus.

Famous quotes containing the word family:

Nobody has ever before asked the nuclear family to live all by itself in a box the way we do. With no relatives, no support, we’ve put it in an impossible situation.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)

Babies control and bring up their families as much as they are controlled by them; in fact ... the family brings up baby by being brought up by him.
    Erik H. Erikson (1904–1994)

The touchstone for family life is still the legendary “and so they were married and lived happily ever after.” It is no wonder that any family falls short of this ideal.
    Salvador Minuchin (20th century)
