Nik Borrow

Nik Borrow is a bird artist, ornithological tour leader for Birdquest and an expert in west African birds.

He is co-author (with Ron Demey) and sole illustrator of Birds of Western Africa in the Helm Identification Guides series, published by Christopher Helm in 2001, the first guide to feature illustrations of all 1285 West African species. Birds of Ghana published by Christopher Helm in 2010 is a dedicated country field guide with new text and maps specific to Ghana. It uses illustrations from the acclaimed Birds of Western Africa as well as many new illustrations, which have been recomposed into a new set of plates illustrating all the species recorded to date in the country as well as neighbouring Togo. Birds of Senegal and The Gambia published by Christopher Helm in 2011 is a dedicated country field guide with new text and maps specific to Senegal And The Gambia. This is the most comprehensive field guide to these countries and follows the format of Birds of Ghana using illustrations from Birds of Western Africa as well as many new illustrations, which have been recomposed into a new set of plates using almost 2000 illustrations to cover almost 680 species.

Borrow studied at the Wimbledon School of Art and subsequently taught art for some years before becoming a professional bird artist and tour guide with the specialist birding holiday company BirdQuest.
