Family
In 1740 Cooke married Hannah, the daughter of Hezekiah Sabin, with whom he had 12 children. One of his descendants was the Honorable George L. Cooke of Providence. His son Joseph S. Cooke (b. 1746) captained a ship on a number of trading voyages to Africa and the West Indes. His daughter Sarah (1755–1843) married Continental Army Colonel Jeremiah Olney on 26 April 1780. The couple had one child, Mary T. Olney (1799–1878).

Famous quotes containing the word family:
“My ambition for station was always easily controlled. If the place came to me it was welcome. But it never seemed to me worth seeking at the cost of self-respect, or independence. My family were not historic; they were well-to-do, did not hold or seek office. It was easy for me to be contented in private life. An honor was no honor to me, if obtained by my own seeking.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“Happy or unhappy, families are all mysterious. We have only to imagine how differently we would be describedand will be, after our deathsby each of the family members who believe they know us.”
—Gloria Steinem (b. 1934)
“Nor does the family even move about together,
But every son would have his motor cycle,
And daughters ride away on casual pillions.”
—T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
