- Gospel Hump Wilderness
- Hells Canyon Wilderness (mostly in Wallowa NF; partly in Payette NF, Whitman NF, or BLM land)
- Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness (partly in Bitterroot NF; Clearwater NF; Lolo NF)

Famous quotes containing the words wilderness and/or areas:
“Thou torturest me, Tubal. It was my turquoise; I had it of Leah when I was a bachelor. I would not have given it for a wilderness of monkeys.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“The discovery of the North Pole is one of those realities which could not be avoided. It is the wages which human perseverance pays itself when it thinks that something is taking too long. The world needed a discoverer of the North Pole, and in all areas of social activity, merit was less important here than opportunity.”
—Karl Kraus (18741936)
