Negative Mass - Classical Gravitational Field Theory

Classical Gravitational Field Theory

In electromagnetism one can derive the energy density of a field from Gauss's law, assuming the curl of the field is 0. Performing the same calculation using Gauss's law for gravity produces a negative energy density for a gravitational field.

Famous quotes containing the words classical, field and/or theory:

Against classical philosophy: thinking about eternity or the immensity of the universe does not lessen my unhappiness.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

They talk about a woman’s sphere,
As though it had a limit.
There’s not a place in earth or heaven.
There’s not a task to mankind given ...
    Without a woman in it.
    —Kate Field (1838–1896)

There never comes a point where a theory can be said to be true. The most that one can claim for any theory is that it has shared the successes of all its rivals and that it has passed at least one test which they have failed.
    —A.J. (Alfred Jules)
