Famous quotes containing the word books:

If my books had been any worse, I should not have been invited to Hollywood, and ... if they had been any better, I should not have come.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)

Be a little careful about your library. Do you foresee what you will do with it? Very little to be sure. But the real question is, What it will do with you? You will come here and get books that will open your eyes, and your ears, and your curiosity, and turn you inside out or outside in.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Of all the ways of acquiring books, writing them oneself is regarded as the most praiseworthy method.... Writers are really people who write books not because they are poor, but because they are dissatisfied with the books which they could buy but do not like.
    Walter Benjamin (1892–1940)
