Previous Political Experience
Prior to Sharma's appointment as governor, he was a general secretary of the Indian National Congress Party, a position to which he was appointed in 2003. He was also the Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly from 1998 to 2003. He was the petrolium minister in 1985 under Congress government.
