Naval Station Newport - Current Operations

Current Operations

The station is home of the decommissioned USS Saratoga after the departure of the USS Forrestal which departed under tow for the inactive ship storage facility in Philadelphia (USS_Forrestal_(CV-59)#Decommissioning_and_fate).

The fate of the Saratoga has not yet been decided, although it has been requested as a museum ship for nearby North Kingstown. The Saratoga is clearly visible from the Newport Bridge (look to the Northeast of the bridge) & just North of Coddington Highway, just off-base along the Middletown-Newport border.

Famous quotes containing the words current and/or operations:

I have come to believe ... that the stage may do more than teach, that much of our current moral instruction will not endure the test of being cast into a lifelike mold, and when presented in dramatic form will reveal itself as platitudinous and effete. That which may have sounded like righteous teaching when it was remote and wordy will be challenged afresh when it is obliged to simulate life itself.
    Jane Addams (1860–1935)

You can’t have operations without screams. Pain and the knife—they’re inseparable.
—Jean Scott Rogers. Robert Day. Mr. Blount (Frank Pettingell)
