The 2010 National Security Strategy

On May 26, 2010, the latest National Security Strategy was issued by President Barack Obama. The new Strategy was referred to by United Nations ambassador Susan Rice as a "dramatic departure" from its predecessor. The Strategy advocated increased engagement with Russia, China and India. The Strategy also identified nuclear non-proliferation and climate change as priorities, while noting that the United States's security depended on reviving its economy. The drafters of the new Strategy made a conscious decision to remove terms such as "Islamic radicalism", instead speaking of terrorism generally.

Famous quotes containing the words national, security and/or strategy:

Prestige is the shadow of money and power. Where these are, there it is. Like the national market for soap or automobiles and the enlarged arena of federal power, the national cash-in area for prestige has grown, slowly being consolidated into a truly national system.
    C. Wright Mills (1916–1962)

I feel a sincere wish indeed to see our government brought back to it’s republican principles, to see that kind of government firmly fixed, to which my whole life has been devoted. I hope we shall now see it so established, as that when I retire, it may be under full security that we are to continue free and happy.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

That is the way of youth and life in general: that we do not understand the strategy until after the campaign is over.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)
